The concept of food shelter and clothing though basic, has seen a major change in the last few centuries. Now it would not be much of an exaggeration if we said it is more of revealing than concealing! Jokes apart, clothes are worn more for the enhancement or beauty than for protection.

Different clothes serve different purposes. There are clothes for different occasions and different occasions in different seasons, different clothes for different ages, sexes and generations. Initially instead of the clothing label, there used to be a marking with the laundry ink. Then the company name would be embroidered on the clothing then came the concept of attaching clothing labels. It was initially meant for the convenience of the shopkeepers to segregate one company clothing from the other. As the concept of merchandising changed the clothing labels still remained as the brand identity.

Clothing tags come in various shapes, sizes, types and materials. A standard shape of a clothing label is the rectangle. It also comes in a square or oval shape. It can be in the type of a band or as a tag. At times the size is also mentioned on the label itself. The clothing leather is usually attached to the insides of the clothing so it necessarily has to be of non allergic material since it comes in direct contact with the body parts. It also should not be big in size since it may tickle or irritate the body parts.

The labels are attached to any clothing from inner wear to suits. Handkerchiefs and socks are the only clothing things that do not have clothing labels. Clothes meant for upper body parts have clothing labels at the inside seam of the neck. Clothing of lower body parts has labels at the waist line seams.
